End of Summer Reading!

Say aloha to an unforgettable summer in the library with our island-style celebration! Bring your family, your competitive spirit, and get ready for a fun-filled day as we wrap up our Level Up at Your Library Summer Reading Program!

Saturday, August 2nd

11am-3pm

🍧 Snow Pebbles Hawaiian Shaved Ice will be selling refreshing treats

🏆 Gold n’ Stuff will be providing free passes (while supplies last)

📚 Free book giveaways and crafts-to-go (while supplies last)

🎉 Event Schedule:

  • 10:30 AM – Mario Kart Tournament Sign-Ups (Ages 10–15)

    Race for bragging rights and awesome prizes!

  • 11:00 AM – Baby Crawl Race

    Crawlers compete while parents cheer them on! Open to babies not yet walking.

  • 11:30 AM – Storytelling with Singalong + Meet & Greet

    Enjoy a lively show and then meet the performers for photos!

  • 12:30 PM – Egg Race (Ages 1–2 & 3–5)

    Balance your egg and race to the finish!

  • 1:15 PM – Bubblemania & Company

    Discover the science and fun of bubbles—you might even step inside one!

  • 2:00 PM – Shake, Rattle, and Roll (Ages 6–8 & 9–12)

    Dash to collect as many bouncing balls as you can!

Game Night

Come hang out, play your favorite games, and make new friends. We’ll have classic and new games like Monopoly, Uno, Aggravation, plus puzzles & more for all ages.

Petite Tones

Join the brand new volunteer-led program which offers engaging music classes for toddlers and their caregivers. Through singing, movement, rhythm, and play, the sessions aim to support early musical development and joyful bonding in a welcoming environment.

One adult per child is required to attend and participate. Limited to 15 families per group so join the waitlist now! Enrollment confirmation will be sent via email, so check your inbox and spam/junk folder, too!

Registration Required

Group 1: Ages 8 months - 1 year

Group 2: Ages 2-3 years

Vision Day

Do you need glasses? Has it been more than a year since you had an eye exam? Have you lost or broken your glasses and need a new pair?

Vision To Learn, a nonprofit provider of vision services, is coming to The Downey City Library to provide free vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses to the youth in need. (4 years old – 18 years old)

If you have a current glasses prescription (less than a year old) please bring it with you to this event.

Appointments are not required but are encouraged.
