Adult Chess Club
Calling all chess enthusiasts! Every other Saturday, the Downey City Library will host the Adult Chess Club, led by local chess enthusiast Salman Mogaddedi! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, come sharpen your skills, learn new strategies, and enjoy friendly competition. This is the perfect chance to challenge yourself, meet fellow chess lovers, and have fun!
When: Every other Saturday, 11am - 1pm
Where: Cormack Room
For ages 18+
Registration is required in-person or by phone (562) 904-7360.
Registration will open 2 weeks prior to the program

Workshop Open Hours
Come join the Workshop during our monthly Open Hour sessions! During Open Hour sessions, participants will be able to work on their own independent projects, utilizing select equipment, supplies and/or materials, including drawing, painting, printmaking, fiber arts and certain general use materials.
Open Hours are self-led, meaning participants work independently, at their own pace. Workshop staff will be available to help get set-up, distribute the materials and offer general help and advice, but will not be able to provide large group or individual long form, step-by-step instruction.
Please note that not all materials, supplies and equipment in the Workshop will be accessible during Open Hours sessions. Please see the list on the Workshop’s webpage for available resources.
Currently, these sessions are limited to individuals aged 18 and up. Pre-registration is required to attend Open Hour sessions. Registration will open on Monday, March 17th at 10:00am. You can register at the Workshop’s webpage.

Sign, Say & Play
Your little one has a lot to say! Help them learn to communicate through sign language. Together learn signs and songs through activities and play. Caregivers will receive tips about language and cognitive development at each class.

CSULB STEM Tinkering Club (3rd-5th Grade)
Join us Saturday mornings this Spring in the Workshop for more sessions of the STEM Tinkering Club, hosted by educators from CSULB. Each session, we’ll explore science and engineering ideas through making: a fun hands-on process of designing, building, testing, rebuilding, and re-testing to create something new!
Students in grades 3rd-5th meet the first Saturday of the month, while students in 6th-8th meet on the second Saturday of the month.
This session is for students who will be in grades 3rd-5th.

Downey Chess Club
New dates and time in the New Year for Chess Club for Kids! Downey Chess Club instructors will be teaching chess in the Cormack Room, Mondays 6:15-7:30pm once a month. In addition to being a fun game, chess teaches students to become leaders by improving concentration, good sportsmanship, critical & abstract thinking, problem solving, planning, and analysis.

Calling all gamers ages 10-16! Join us for an action-packed Super Smash Bros Spring Tournament. Test your skills in this bracket-style competition and aim for victory! Spaces are limited, so arrive early to secure your spot in the battle. Spectators are welcome to cheer on their favorite players, and snacks will be provided. Felting Workshop: Wrist Warmers
Learn the basics of wet felting! In this workshop, participants will make wrist warmers by felting layers of wool together. Picture Frame Decorating
The Workshop is excited to collaborate with the Studio for their upcoming photoshoot! Share your love of learning English with diverse students just like you! Students will read, discuss and practice their English communication skills. No registration required.

Sign, Say & Play
Your little one has a lot to say! Help them learn to communicate through sign language. Together learn signs and songs through activities and play. Caregivers will receive tips about language and cognitive development at each class.
This is a 6 week program, meeting once per week

Gouache Painting - Step by Step Workshop
Learn how to paint with gouache in the Workshop! In this fully guided class, participants will walk through the steps of painting with gouache paint. Class participants will all be painting the same subject, following along with the instructor. This program is intended for beginners with no previous experience. All materials will be provided.
This program is intended for ages 18+.

Adult Chess Club
Calling all chess enthusiasts! Every other Saturday, the Downey City Library will host the Adult Chess Club, led by local chess enthusiast Salman Mogaddedi!
